From Kickboxing to Badminton

When Izat asked me whether i wanna play badminton yesterday, I said to myself..why not..despite the heavy workload i had yesterday..(in fact it continues till today..i just got home, for the record.)

However, I think it was the best decision I made yesterday - leaving my desk work hanging and played badminton..for 1 solid hours..yeah..don't be suprised..

It was also a great workout...according to this calorie calculator i got from a website http://www.lowfatlifestyle.com/caloriecalculator.htm , by playing casual racquetball games like badminton for an hour, a person weights 170 pounds (yupp me) will burn as much as 538 calories..that is as good as doing aerobic exercise at home for an hour...

to me, that is quite a good start..i think, i'll try to make it as a weekly activity..

Well On Track!!

My first fitness kickboxing experience...

I had a new experience.. Quite a thrilling one. I had my first fitness kickboxing experience, a complimentary introductory lesson, at Jak Kickboxing at Subang Jaya.

FYI, I went to check out the place yesterday and I immediately got hooked with it. But I wasn't prepared to join the introductory class when offered. Besides, I was a bit skeptical being the only beginner student (a 29 years old beginner some more..) in the group. Further, only a small group of trainees, consist of 4 persons were present yesterday.

But today was a different story.

Firstly, the other senior trainees and I were greeted with such a friendly gestures, by a cute and petite Chinese girl, who happens to be my instructor in the class. Mind you, don't be fooled with her cute, polite and friendly gestures, she really can kick butt!! Her name is Karen.

Secondly, the crowd was friendly. We made friends in such a multi-racial group, which I enjoyed very much. The best part was, I wasn't the only new guy around. I had the privilege of being accompanied by three other new trainees (2 boys and 1 girl, college students), equally clueless of whats going to happen next. BTW, don't be intimidated being a slightly older because I saw an uncle (at least in his 40-50s), which is also a trainee (phase 2) throwing punches like nobody's business. FYI, college kids form the majority of the crowd (even some instructors are college kids too), but there are also quite a number of working adults.

Our first lesson today is the right way to wear boxing handwrap. Then, we learnt how to execute three types of kicks...yeahh...front kick, crocs kick and the other kick (forgot laa, I'll tell you next time).

Let me tell you, for a beginner like me (fyi, i don't have any basic training in any combat martial art (you don't consider Silat Cekak combat, do you?), it was thrilling and tiring too. You won't be intensely drilled in your introductory class, but based on the routines that being practised by the senior trainees, I saw sweat dripping and showering. No wonder these people are fit.

In all, I kind of like the people, the place and the class. And even though I've yet to officially register as a member, I've a strong feeling that I will be joining them. I can't wait till the next class. In the mean time, let me recuperate. My back is starting to ache. Hehehe..

Haiiyaaaa!!!!

Planning to get fit

These past few days I did lots of reading, especially on health and fitness. I want to find the most suitable form of exercise for me, taking into consideration my limited time, budget and other engagements.

In fact I did a survey on the current trends in town. So I found quite a number of activities, i.e., lifestyle gym + group x, martial arts, many kinds of sports, swimming etc. I also went to a few fitness centers, Fitness First, California Fitness and Trues Fitness- all different names but basically the same thing.

One of the most attractive activity is by getting a Fitness Center membership, which is quite cool and also interesting. In fact, I were once a Fitness First member few years back. But now I figured out, maybe I need something more exciting and a bit different. Something that can keep me wanting more. That's how I decided to join fitness kickboxing.

Are you fat?

Just want to share the range of acceptable percentage of body fat.
Now I'm wondering, which category do I belong..hmm..

Being fat..(whether you like it or not)

Of course you love yourself.

Be it, fat or thin. Tall or short. Fair or dark. It is just you. If there is anyone in this world that you should love most, it should be yourself. At least, love yourself first before you love others.

You also look good. Again, be it fat, thin, tall, short, fair or dark. I'm sure there will be someone, somewhere who likes you just they way you do, of course besides yourself. I've so many thin people whom are attracted to fat people, vice versa. I've also met many people whom find really skinny people very attractive (remember Kate moss, she is being paid handsomely for being so skinny), and some fat people very popular and rich (the classic Oprah Winfrey, I couldn't remember the last time she is within the acceptable BMI range).

Initial Conclusion : Being fat is just fine.

You see, I totally agreeable with the conclusion. I really don't mind other people being fat, which includes my father, young sister, aunts and uncles, in laws, in laws relatives etc etc. In fact, fat people seems to have great attitude. They crack good jokes, they can laugh at themselves and some are so adoreable and cute too. (However, this does not include my wife..She shall not be fat.So jahat..:P)

But just cannot accept myself being fat. And for the hatred of being individually fat and overweight, I've made up my mind (this time seriously), that I will strive to acheive my ideal bodyweight.

And for that reason, I setup this blog. This blog will record my journey to becoming a physically fit person.

I know and realize that this will never become an easy feat. Knowing myself, I've been trying to do this countless times. And, as always, it has never became a really successful story anyways.

Wish me luck.

You are fat (Ellya)

You are fat.

Face the fact. You are obese (although not that obviously obese) but still you pack more fat than muscle.

Your can hardly wear your old clothes to work, even there are not so old (the shirt you bought last November can barely fit you). You only wear two pants to work, one black and the other one is grey. You will try your best to put on dark colored clothes, black, blue etc. Those bright colors shirts your wife bought are now hanging peacefully in your closet. You don't wear pink anymore, although you used to get praised by girls on how good you used to look in that shirt.

Your jeans is so tight, you cant sit on the floor properly. It squeezes your crotch and you cannot breath. Everyone will notice how you put your grim face while trying to catch breath. One of your favorite cargo pants button's just gone missing, without even you noticing. Your wrist got bigger too. Suddenly you cannot fit the watch you've been using for the past 5 years.

Everybody thinks you are fat. Ask your mak, ayah, papa, mama, all of your cousins, aunties/ uncle, colleagues, your ex-girlfriends and your wife. Ask your son when he's old enough. But don't ask your subordinate, they might think that its wise not tell the truth about you.

Ok la.

I'm fat.
